A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health Care Assistant to join our friendly team at Greenway Community Practice

The opportunity has arisen for an experienced, friendly and motivated individual to join our Nursing team as Health Care Assistant. The post may also suit an experienced phlebotomist who is keen to develop into a HCA role.

Working alongside the Treatment Room Nurses, the successful applicant will project a positive and friendly image to patients and visitors both in person and on the telephone. Experience of infection control processes and regulatory frameworks is essential.

This role would suit someone who is well organised, remains calm under pressure and who strives to deliver a high standard of patient care. Experience in General Practice would be an advantage.

For this part time role of 15 hours per week, an hourly rate of between £11.50 - £12.00 is on offer depending on experience, together with an NHS pension and 31 days holiday pro rata.

Job Summary:

Working under the direct supervision of the nurse-on-duty, strictly in accordance with both specific practice guidelines and protocols, and following a period of relevant training and assessment, the Healthcare Assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.
 

Key Responsibilities

To efficiently undertake administration and reception duties which may include the following duties as directed:

• To practice under the direct supervision of the registered nurse on-duty and independently within individual competencies, with reference to specific practice guidelines and protocols, referring on to other team members as appropriate

• To advise nurse-on-duty immediately of potential problems within range of assigned tasks 

• To perform routine tasks related to patient care, which may include:

o Phlebotomy

o BP monitoring

o Urinalysis

o Height/weight (BMI) monitoring

o New patient health checks

o ECG recording

o Spirometry/peak flow recording

o Ear irrigation

o Obtaining pathology samples, swabs, urine, blood etc.

o Giving advice on smoking, diet and health promotion

o Giving injections with a patient specific directive

o Baby Checks/1st Imms

o Mental Health Reviews

o Simple dressings

 

• To process and manage laboratory samples as requested by GPs/nurses

• To chaperone GPs and assist patients (where appropriate) during clinical procedures

• To assist with minor surgical procedures as required

• To monitor and record vaccine/cold chain storage and report all potential problems immediately to the nurse-on-duty

• To sterilise, clean and maintain equipment relating to patient care

• To maintain adequate supplies of stock (including vaccinations) and equipment

• To clear and re-stock all clinical areas (including GP rooms)

• To be aware of the need for regular maintenance of clinical equipment and report potential problems with clinical equipment to nurse-on-duty or Senior Nurse 

• To assist in the assessment and surveillance of patients’ health and well-being

• To help to raise awareness of health and well-being across the practice population

• To maintain accurate documentation of care and utilisation of IT

• To undertake administrative tasks relevant to patient care
